Green Commons

Building a Better Future, Together

For more than 30 years, we've been part of a growing movement to transform the building industry into a force for good.

It started with Environmental Building News in 1992—the first publication dedicated to green building.

As the movement grew, so did we: evolving into BuildingGreen.com, helping shape LEED and HPDs, creating trusted tools like LEEDuser, and launching the Peer Networks.

The Peer Networks have sparked initiatives like MEP 2040, All for Reuse, and the Contractor’s Commitment, which is now being managed by USGBC California. These trusted spaces  have helped shape careers and build lasting, non-competitive relationships across the industry, sparking innovation, inspiration and real impact.

In 2025 BuildingGreen was sold and now operates under new ownership.

Green Commons was established to become the new home of Peer Networks.

We’re doubling down on our support for professionals driving change in the design, construction, and engineering communities with enhanced tools, cross-network collaboration, and the Green Commons Summit – a combined gathering of all Green Commons Peer Networks.

It’s also where you can access consulting and facilitation services led by Nadav Malin, who, as former longtime CEO of BuildingGreen, has amassed a broad-based network of technical collaborators and disruptive thinkers who can be deployed to imagine what’s possible, chart bold new directions, and galvanize people around a shared vision for change.

Why “Green Commons”?

The thriving, equitable world we seek must be built on careful stewardship of our common resources—clean air and water, natural places, and functional infrastructure.

Another common resource is our collective attention and creativity. We need a vigorous sharing of ideas and trust in community to turn aspirations into action. This thinking led to the Peer Networks, and what better name for where they gather than Green Commons?
